Love Promise Stories from Friendship Subaru of Beckley

Subaru and Friendship Subaru of Beckley believe in making a positive impact on the communities in which we live and work. We uphold that belief through our Love Promise Community Commitment. Every month, we select inspiring stories from customers and partners from around our area who strive to support our collective commitment and feature them here.

Subaru Loves The Earth - Janeen B.

Every year, in conjunction with Subaru Loves The Earth, we here at Friendship Subaru of Beckley try and do as much as possible with our community partners. We chose Stanaford Elementary School to help us with planting some needed trees and thought it would be a great learning tool for the students. We asked the principal what kind of trees they would like to surround their school with and we bought accordingly. These kids and their response to helping dig and learning the care and treatment of the trees as they begin to root was overwhelming, they were so excited to see how it was done and also an excuse to play in the dirt and get a little muddy. The school principal, and a few other teachers were on hand to help unload the truck and work with the kids as we were trying to space them out according to their growth cycle. What a moment! This was just one event planned so far, we have a few others coming still this month! What a way to help impact our community and teach our next generation how it feels to be part of a team trying to make a difference in this world today!

Meals on Wheels - Janeen B.

The Raleigh County Commission on Aging partners with us here at Friendship Subaru of Beckley, we engage with our local seniors as well as come together at all their local events. It has become one of our favorite charities here and the people we meet and help are beyond grateful. We have been given the best opportunity to actually get into the inner workings of these charities and really see how they affect the community as a whole. The staff and management at the Commission on Aging are encouraging and always accommodating with our schedules and they work with us to make sure we are able to get our hand in it too, we have become personal friends over the years and it's nice to have that community connection. They truly make a difference, seeing the faces of the many helped, whether it's through the Meals on Wheels program or the activity center for ones that can come in to celebrate in person, everyone is included! A few times a year a few of us will go on rides with the drivers delivering food, also attend the parties held at the center, we love to come serve them, dance, cut up and truly have a good time. Not only do these delivery drivers bring food, they engage with people that genuinely have no one else. The drivers and helpers go above and beyond, the befriend them and the clients love having someone to verbally spar with a couple days a week. I've seen them take their trash to the curb, put outgoing mail in their mailbox for them, give their animals affection and truly cut up about a certain sports team the were discussing previously in the week. Getting to know these people is one of the highlights of this job and I truly love it.

Subaru Loves to Help - Janeen B.

This year with our Subaru Loves to Help campaign we partnered with a few different community networks, The main objective was to distribute our gifts to the team where it will make the most impact. The Raleigh County Family Resource Network was our goal! The mission of the Raleigh County FRN is to support families and communities to attain their highest possible quality of life. We shall achieve this through unified community planning, coordinating, and evaluation resulting in positive changes in services delivery systems. Work on issues identified as priorities for their community, such as: Welfare reform, access to health care, early education and child care, parenting education and support, violence prevention, literacy, Family Resource centers, and volunteer recruitment. Address these issues so that: Resources are invested wisely, services for children and families are more effective and efficient, the need for new or expanded services can be addressed, citizens have the opportunity to shape services in their community, and public support for children and families is increased. We were proud to have them as our Operation Warm Event recipients, The children in our community are truly being blessed!

Bikes for Kids - Janeen B.

Friendship Subaru of Beckley participated in our first ever Friendship Event called Bikes for Kids. The Friendship Family as well as Camp Friendship have made a huge impact on the community, their mantra is parallel to the Subaru Love Promise. So this year during our Share the Love Event we actually started receiving new and gently used bikes to hand over to those not as fortunate. We put a few posts on our social media asking for donations as well as all other platforms and those posts were answered! We partnered with Burlington United Methodist Family Services, this is our local institution that deals with youth suffering from mental health issues. They are given housing, counselors and people that are there to love and protect them, also taught trades as well as how to actually care and live independently. Many of these kids come out with a better sense of accountability and structure and go on to become active members of society. It was our greatest pleasure!

Subaru Loves Pets - Janeen B.

What a wonderful year for the Raleigh County Humane Society, we here at Friendship Subaru of Beckley work hard every chance we get to volunteer and help the furbabies find their forever home within our community. We hold Adopt a Pet events, offer pet portraits at Halloween as well as share their posts on our platforms. During our events we were able to get some adopted but mostly building a working repour with fellow businesses for other resources. This is a No-Kill shelter so they depend heavily on our donations and the kindness of others willing to help. Some of these animals have spent their whole lives living within this shelter, so we as a community try and make it the best we can within our grasp. In our service area we have boxes set up for food, cat/dog accessories, snacks, toys and also monetary contributions, we collect then every once in a while we try and make a drop. They are so appreciative and so thankful for everything given that we love being their Partner.

Christmas with Seniors - Janeen B.

This year just like in the past we partnered with our friends The Raleigh County Commission on Aging and offered to serve them during their annual Christmas Party/Lunch. Of course we work hand in hand with them all year long so they were more than happy to accept. We give donations for the Meals on Wheels programs and we also volunteer to do a lot of other services. We decided to work the receiving line, handing out snacks before the meal started, greeting and meeting. We held many conversations and laughed with everyone as they came in, enjoyed GW playing music for us, seniors giving us dancing lessons, the staff all dressed up as elves and Santa handing out presents and of course selling raffle tickets. What an opportunity to share a meal with these fine folks and to be able to know that somewhere you made a difference. We appreciate the opportunity to be able to serve through Subaru Share the Love!

Meals on Wheels in Beckley WV - Janeen B.

As it is that time of year where we at Friendship Subaru like to go above and beyond, this is no exception. We have a wonderful partnership with the Raleigh County Commission on Aging and in general their Meals on Wheels program. Every year we are invited to ride along on a few runs, help deliver meals and chat with the local residents about their needs and thoughts on what else we could offer to help. Sometimes it's helping them get in contact with the right people, making it our business to help those a little less fortunate and give them the opportunity to better their circumstances. Most of the time they are elderly and have trouble getting around, but these visits three times weekly are sometimes the most they ever get and they love the interaction and the joyful banter. These meal drivers carry on conversations with them, share interests with each other and genuinely care about these folks. They talk about sports teams and who is winning, what plans they have coming up, even help a lot with taking their trash to the curb or removing snow from their walk way.. This team is amazing and we feel so honored to be part of it. It's about the meal of course, but it's the knowing that someone cares enough to call you when you don't answer the door, or contact your son to make sure that your not home so you don't miss your meals. It's making sure your fellow neighbor is taken care of, this is why this charity is one of the best that we have. The services these people do are rewarding in so many ways and everyone benefits, it truly takes a village to care and WE are that village.

Thanksgiving at Raleigh County Commission on Aging - Janeen B.

Every year we partner up with the kind folks over at The Commission on Aging. We/Subaru have had many interactions with them over the years. We try and get over there a few times a year to help with dinners, dancing, deliveries, entertainment and good Ol karaoke, we also like to help out by delivering meals for the Meals on Wheels program. We know them by name and most look forward to us coming by and offering assistance. The interactions we have with these folks are about the only ones some of them get outside of the home.

Feeding America - Janeen B.

We at Friendship Subaru have been partnering with local charities to help within the community. We were called to see if we were able to come out and help with a small thing for Veteran's Day, of course we were excited to be part of this crew and help out in any way possible. So we went over with the Feeding America crew and helped unload the trucks as well as pack up boxes and boxes of vegetables, fruits, canned foods, dog and cat food etc. They were offering everything for our veterans and their homes. This was the most amazing experience to be involved with, these volunteers, veterans and other work crew worked like a well oiled machine. We all worked in sync to get the job done and get the food and supplies delivered in a timely manner. It was a complete success! These veterans and their families deserved our Thanks and our respect, Thank you for including us in your event, we are truly blessed to have such a great community partner!

Adopt A Pet - Janeen B.

We at Friendship Subaru of Beckley hosted an Adopt A Pet event today in our dealership. We had the Humane Society of Raleigh County bring some animals up for adoption. We had our local radio station do live broadcasts letting listeners know that the event was going on as well as Subaru offering to pay all adoption costs and fees. We also gave away the new Pet Parents Kits provided from Subaru as well as some Chewbaru's for the others. This event was fabulous! We had lots of people coming just to see what dogs they brought for us to love and to bring joy to our service department as the dogs decided to roam a little. There's nothing better that coming to work or being there already when loving and willing pets come up to you just to say HI, these are the most humble dogs and so thankful for being there and they all genuinely seemed happy to be engaging with others. I With our General Manager, Steven Smith doing the live broadcasts with our local radio station and inviting everyone to come check out what was happening, we were able to get 1 out of the 4 dogs adopted out to a happy family. A big shout out to the Humane Society workers, they are so kind, easy going and thoroughly love these animals and want to see them go to their furever home. Little by little we can make a small impact on the lives of these animals. This is our mission.

Subaru Loves Learning - Janeen B.

Every year we partner with one of our elementary schools in the area, this year Stanaford Elementary School was it! We are in good graces with some of the staff and the principal, we let them know we were coming and what we had for them. Before we even went over there, Mrs. McDaniel was kind enough to let us know exactly what kind of essentials they really needed and supplied us with a small wish list from her teachers and staff. We took their advice and shopped accordingly, when we showed up it was amazing! Kids everywhere thanking us for giving them these supplies, helping their teachers and for overall picking them. It is very humbling to see that these donations mean the world to some of these kids and it is our extreme pleasure in providing! We thank you Stanaford Elementary School for being that Subaru Loves Learning® Partner.

Subaru Loves to Care® Friendship Subaru and their partners at The Carl Larson Cancer Center - Janeen B.

For years Friendship Subaru has partnered with The Carl Larson Cancer Center. During the time leading up to the Subaru Loves to Care program we extend our feelers out and meet with Director and Management Staff to see what needs to be done and we jump in and help. The Carl Larson Cancer Center is situated here in Beckley, WV and serves all the surrounding counties as it's main facility, they provide complete care in Chemotherapy, Radiation Therapy, Imaging and Lab in one convenient setting. The Cancer Center is the only one in Southern West Virginia to offer multiple treatment options as well as patient care services. Often, the patients must travel daily until the completion of their therapy, traveling to multiple sites can get very expensive, time consuming and, very often, causes stress and fatigue on the patient. Also, if complications arise during treatment, the patient's primary Chemotherapy and Radiation Therapy doctors are at different locations which in turn causes difficulty or delay in their care. Here we are able to give more individual attention and care! Being able to help, even a little brings joy and happiness to us as a brand.

Subaru Loves the Earth® - Janeen B.

Friendship Subaru of Beckley has partnered with the Raleigh County Solid Waste Authority in doing a little Litter Clean Up! This was all part of our Subaru Loves The Earth Campaign and we look forward to volunteering every year. We love to do our part of keeping our community clean and encouraging other businesses and organizations to get out there and HELP. If we can all do a little at a time, it would go a long way to Keep America Beautiful. It all starts with one volunteer!

The Safehaven Campaign - Janeen B.

This past year for the Subaru Share the Love® Event, we partnered with The Safehaven Campaign, this is a local Recovery and Rehabilitation Center that strives to help people suffering from addiction and the aftereffects of this disease. They offer accommodating places to stay long term as well as the rehabilitation to get their life back in order and back to productive living. Under the supervision of a medical advisory board as well as counselors they are able to be re-introduced into society. This system not only requires commitment from individuals but a commitment from the overall community as well. We are happy to announce that Friendship Subaru was able to donate thousands to this cause and hope to continue to do so in the future.

Subaru Sock Drop Off - Janeen B.

With Subaru donating over a thousand pair of socks for our community, Steven Smith (General Manager) and Janeen Bailey took and delivered these well intended gifts to their respective places at The Raleigh County Emergency Assistance office. The administrator and a few of the inhabitants were there to help carry the donations and were excited to see the range of sizes from child to adult. She spoke of the need for these things among others that they are thankful for, she continued to carry on with us about the assistance that they offer as well as the clothing. She thanked us and of course decided to let us know about her mother and her Subaru story that changed their lives forever. As we were departing they offered their goodbyes and smiling we let them know that we will be back again! We thoroughly enjoy being able to represent Subaru with these moments, they not only change their lives but they change OURS!
